We learned a lot of things at the Water Festival on Thursday! We rotated to 4 different stations and learned about water molecules, how trees use water, things that invade ponds, and how to conserve water. Then, we listened to "Mr. History" as he told us how water impacted the development of both North Dakota and Minnesota.

This year we have been using a lot of activities/games to reinforce math concepts. One of the activities is called The Pentomino Challenge. Which challenges students to use pentominoes (12 shapes made of 5 squares) to fit inside of a 6 x 10 square rectangle. We use the challenge to work on our problem solving skills. Today, our first classmate was successful!!
It has been so fun to see what the kids came up with for Spirit Week! This week we also worked on building our stamina, had a rounding snowball fight in math, and did an experiment using the scientific method. In science we have been learning about various types of investigations scientists use. Today we tried our hands at building models. We could use 100 index cards and 25 inches of tape to build the tallest tower possible in 25 minutes. We did a lot of problem solving and cooperative learning in the process! Our tallest towers made it to 39 inches! This week we learned about our Classroom Economy. We talked about expectations, ways to earn 'money' and ways to loose it. They are very excited to get started! We will use our classroom 'dollars' in our auction/store at the end of the quarter! Today we played a game to get used to how we are recording our economy earning/losses. They had a lot of fun! |
