In January, the second graders took a week to become penguin experts. They read books, watched videos, did special projects, and wrote their own fact books. They put to use their knowledge of penguin parenting and became penguin parents for a day. Each second grader brought a "nest" to keep an actual egg in, and were responsible for making sure their egg was with them and protected at all times though out the day. The penguin eggs even got to go to recess. At the end of the day, the eggs hatched and the second graders got to meet their new friends! It was a fantastic week! A few of our penguin projects! We had an excellent Halloween in second grade. In the morning we read stories we had written about pumpkins to the Kindergarteners. In the afternoon we had a costume parade and classroom fun. We had mummy races, ate a delicious snack, and played more games. Thank you to all who stopped by or sent things for our party!! We have been working on making our writing neater. This week we made sure our capital letters, spaces, and end marks were all in place. We wrote about how to make Frankenstein pretty. I just love their creativity! Last week we learned about artists who made Pop Art famous. We asked our classmates to think of one word that describes us, and then made our own portraits. We only used blue, yellow, and red to paint our pictures. They were SO MUCH FUN!
A few weeks ago we learned the difference between warm and cool colors. For our art project we created these fun hand drawings to show off our new knowledge! It has been SO MUCH FUN getting to know all the kiddos in 2nd grade this year! They have already shown me that they are excellent writers and very eager to learn all sorts of new things. Check out a few pictures of our first week. :) |
