What an exciting time to be in 4th grade! This week we started a "what stuck with you" board in a Twitter form. Each day we "tweet" about something that we learned, something interesting we did, or something that stuck out to us during the school day. It is such a neat way to see what was important to each student during the day. Our class also has an actual Twitter account! Follow us at @Norbysroom! We will be following other 4th grade classrooms to see what our peers are doing across the world. We have also started following a few of our favorite authors. We will be tweeting about things happening in our room and discoveries we have made! We are very excited to share why our class rocks!
We have been working on using the scientific process to identify and answer questions. Our most recent lab got us thinking about how to build towers out of common materials. Our challenge was to make the tallest tower possible using just toothpicks, play-dough, and our teammates. They learned a lot about teamwork, changing ideas, flexibility, and perseverance. In the end we also got practice communicating our results by creating bar graphs. We have been meeting with the preschoolers every other Friday to do projects and read. This past week they were learning about apples. We got to help our buddies make a fun apple tree snack! As part of this science chapter we have been learning about the scientific process. We set out to answer the question "Which type of boat will hold more bears?". The 4th graders made observations, did some research and formed a hypothesis. Finally, we got to run an experiment and collect some data. The scientists made some excellent observations and formed well thought out conclusions! |
